FAQ

Can we apply if one of the members is over 30?
In principle, no, but an exception may be granted if the artistic committee considers the duo's project sufficiently compelling.
Do I need to be enrolled at a conservatoire?
That is not required.
May the works presented be contemporary?
Absolutely, the programme is entirely free. The works presented must, however, have been published. As the audition is short, it helps the jury to properly assess the two pianists' ability to play together, so the choice of works should showcase this. In addition, contemporary works involving prepared piano will not be accepted, for logistical reasons.
Are the Academy's concerts paid?
The closing concert is not paid; it takes place at the prestigious Salle Cortot in Paris. Other concerts may be offered to the Academy's duos, some paid and some not, depending on the opportunities put forward by the Academy's partners. Duos are entirely free to accept or decline these offers. Concerts given as part of the Rungis Piano-Piano Festival, by contrast, are always paid.
What does a masterclass day involve?
The masterclasses take place at the Academy's partner venues. They run from 10 am to 5.30 pm, and the timetable is drawn up beforehand between the Piano-Piano coordinator and the duos, according to their wishes and constraints. The masterclasses are open to the public. Duos are encouraged to attend every session of the day.

Depending on the nationality of the duos and the teachers, a session may be given in French, English, Russian or German, whichever language best suits the duo and the teacher. A single teacher may therefore switch languages over the course of a masterclass day.
